DAMPER WITH SPIRAL AXLE

Damper with spiral axle (1) is a product which has been designed in order to control the oscillation of the springs used in vehicles, to minimize the vibrations and shocks coming from outside and or taking place in the vehicle where the damper is used by protecting the flexibility of the spring. The system consists of the upper connection ear (2) which fixes the damper to the vehicle, a spiral axle (1), inner spiral brace (4, 5) where the axle goes through, roller (3, 17) which rotates just in one direction or two directions and which is resistant to the repelling force, bush (8) which serves as a bearing to roller and breaks the external brace (6),  damper pipe (12) where bush enters into, with screw teeth (9), bracket (10) and lower connection ear (11) enabling fixing to the vehicle and nut with cover attaching the spiral mil to the damper pipe.

Damper with spiral axle (1) is a product which has been designed in order to control the oscillation of the springs used in vehicles, to minimize the vibrations and shocks coming from outside and or taking place in the vehicle

Damper with spiral axle (1) functions on the principle that the damper demonstrates a resistance opposite to the movement direction of the spring. The damper doesn’t resist in the movement direction of the spring and it prevents repulse in the withdraw point of the spring by breaking the spring. This takes place according to the principle where spiral axle goes through a roller with spiral brace (5) allowing a one side movement and where bush (8), serving as a bearing to roller, squeezes the roller. Spiral axle (1) which is forced in the movement direction of the spring rotates the roller only from spiral inner brace (5) to one direction and while the spring is withdrawn the roller is locked from the inner brace (5) and with the repulse force of the spiral axle the roller rotates in the reverse direction as a whole and with the external brace (6) however the bush (8) which serves as a bearing to roller compresses the roller at the same time and therefore stops the return of the spring with the same speed, and all kinds of impacts, shock and vibrations related to the spring are absorbed by the damper with spiral axle.

In the damper with spiral axle, the withdrawal reaction of the damper can be adjusted with the covered nut (13) which is a part of the damper and which fixes the axle to the damper pipe. The bush (8) which serves as a bearing to roller with the compression of the covered nut causes more compression of the roller and therefore the reaction range of the damper can be adjusted with the tightening or loosening of this screw.

Damper with spiral axle can also be used without the bush (8) which serves as a bearing to roller and which also breaks the roller. In a different way, this type of dampers the rollers (17) can rotate not just to one direction but also to two directions and only from spiral internal brace (5) and rollers (17) can resist to the repulse force applied to both directions just like the rollers (3) in the dampers with spiral axle and bush. With these dampers, the hardness setting of the damper present a condition which is proportional with the spiral axle and the number of folds of the spiral of the internal brace where the axle goes through. As the number of fold of the spiral increases, hardness increases too, and vice versa.

In the damper with spiral axle without bush the lined damper pipe (12) serves as a bearing to roller (17) and the reaction range of the damper to the spring movements are the same in two directions, contrary to the damper with the spiral axle with bush. When pressuring the spring, the damper slows down the spring with certain ratio, and releases it with the same hardness in the withdraw point of the spring.

The parts in the figure are numbered and their descriptions are given below:

1- Spiral axle
2- Upper connection ear
3- Rolling rotating in one direction
4-5 – Internal brace
6-7 – External brace
8- Bush
9- Pipe screw teeth
10- Pipe bracket
11- Lower connection ear
12- Damper pipe
13- Covered nut
14- Piston
15- Helical spring
16- Gas
17- Rolling which can rotate in both directions

The biggest feature of the damper with spiral axle with bush is that the reverse movement of the spring is much slower than the initial movement. With the existing dampers with oil, with gas, with oil&gas, the oscillation of the spring is the same almost in both directions, and while this is different with the dampers with spiral axle with bush where the spring moves freely to one direction and compressed in the other, thus allowing better absorption of the forces on the spring. Besides, another advantage of the system seems to be that the spring can be applied to cars, motorcycles, bicycles without radical changes.

The existing dampers with oil or with gas have some setbacks. During the first crashing of the spring, the force on the spring affects the damper too because of the resistance of the dampers to both directions, therefore the flexibility of the spring in the free condition is significantly damaged and the efficiency expected from the spring is not at  the desired level. There maybe blast or leakages in these dampers functioning under pressure, the damper loses its softness, highly affected by the climate and can become softer when warm and harder when cold. However, with the damper with spiral axle, damper maintains its function in all conditions with similar softness and not hardness or softness occurs in it. Besides, since it doesn’t function under pressure, it is not affected by setbacks like  blasts and leakage and it maintains its current functioning under all conditions.

Damper with spiral axle with bush and without bush can serve for springing with different versions as well as absorption function (Figure 2,4). These dampers consisting of a similar apparatus and springing function can function both as spring and damper by pressing the helical spring (15) through a piston (14) installed into the other end of the spiral axle and by compressing the gas (16) injected in the damper pipe, differently from the helical spring. Of course  damper with spiral axle with and without bush can be used with helical springs and in a combined way.
